4Chan.org Gets Blocked By Verizon

Popular photo sharing website 4chan.org has apparently been blocked on Verizon connections, we’re learning. 4chan founder by the name of ‘Moot’ posted on Sunday with regard to the issue:
After an hour and a half on the phone, we’ve received confirmation from Verizon’s Network Repair Bureau (NRB) that we are “explicitly blocked.”
No official word has originated from Verizon quite yet, but this isn’t the first time a high-profile carrier has blocked the sharing website. Previously, AT&T blocked the website after a DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attack was supposedly coming form the website’s IP. It turned out to be nothing more than a blunder on AT&T’s part.
But if in fact Verizon is blocking the website, it’s not without a price. As Neowin‘s Brad Sams puts it: “4chan is known for its extremely active and technically savvy community.” The website’s users are notorious for revolting through various technical means, including but not limited to: DDOS attacks, hackings, and website vandalism.
Expect to see some sort of backlash should this turn out to be an intentional block — of which Moot believes it to be.
We’ll update as we find out more.
